            Spiritual Mumbo Jumbo

What's all this spiritual mumbo jumbo you hear your Mum and her friends talk about? Why is sitting in circle become a new craze? And why are you drawn to crystals?

All very valid questions...

What is spirituality?

Spirituality is a bit of a loaded topic, it means something different for everyone. By definition, spirituality is deeply personal, it's a practise that takes you inwards opening you up to the possibility of something far greater than yourself, but at the same time checking you in, with your inner knowing.

The group your Mum belongs too, or the crystals that seem to catch your attention, are all modalities to remind you of who you are and the connection you have with community.

The good news is; your spiritual practice is yours, and you cannot do it wrong. Infact, if the word spiritual doesn't sit right give it another name, if you prefer the word mindfulness over meditation, then that is ok too. This is your own journey.

So, where do you start?

Spiritual practices are infinitely vast and very varied, however here are a few tips I feel could help you on  the path.

  • Just breathe  our breath is our life force, it is the very first thing you do when you're born and it will be the last. It is the magic that keeps us living. Our breath is our life force and energy and only you have full control over it.
  • Create a quietness practise  take some time away from your friends and family daily, even if it is for 5 minutes. Connect in to the right side/creative side of your brain, turn the chatter off. Create a ritual within this practise; again there is no right or wrong way, it is very personal. Perhaps sit on a cushion, hold a crystal to your heart space, or light a candle and watch the flickering flame then slowly close your eyes. Use the tools you need for quiet time.
  • Spending time in nature  take some time to walk barefoot, I like to start my day by going outside barefoot and breath-in the fresh air. Do you follow the moon phases? The moon has incredible healing properties, look at how it controls the tides, when is the last time you connected with it? Or go out into nature, choose a flower and give it five minutes of your undivided attention, just watch the beauty and the magic.
  • Keep looking up  we are all guilty of looking down, our phones keep us looking in one direction only. There is so much going on above us if we take the time to connect.
  • Move your body  it wants to be in a constant state of flow, when we are stagnant our energy becomes dull, keep your sparkle alive with movement, dance, swim or rollerskate, anything that helps connect  you to the lifeforce  of your body.
  • Be creative   like writing, drawing or playing music, anything that makes you feel inspired. When you bring something new into the world you are enabling the creative life force to blossom for the collective. What a boring place it would be without creativity or trial and error.

Always remember this is your journey, you inner knowing counts for everything, but be curious, ask questions, connect with other girls {even your Mum or her friends}, we are always learning, whatever the age.
