Why I stopped using Tampons + Pads

Why I stopped using Tampons + Pads

For a very long time I had a very difficult time with my menstruation. I utterly dreaded 'that time of the month'. I have previously spoken about this and I could go on, however I'm no longer in that space and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE my menstruation.

It all started with what I was inserting into my body and the bad choices I've made over the years...

Pesticide residue, parabens and phthalates linked to hormone disruption, antibacterial chemicals like triclosan, styrene and chloroform, bleach to whiten, glue to attach the string and artificial fragrance...

As you read the list of what you are putting into your body each month, how does it you make you feel? How does your Yoni feel? There is an alternative.

Menstrual Cup

Most menstrual cups hold three time more fluid than a regular tampon or pad.

  • A moon cup is affordable, reusable, it's a one off cost.
  • Toxic shock syndrome is a rare but life-threatening condition caused by bacteria getting into the body and releasing harmful toxins, something possible from using a chemical ridden tampon.
  • No nasty chemicals.
  • Holds more liquid than pads or tampons.
  • Zero waste, much better for the environment than pads or tampons.

Period Pants

Period Pants give me the confidence I need when out and about all day. On my heavy days and nights I wear them alongside my cup.

  • Period pants are affordable, reusable, it's a one off cost.
  • Much better for the environment than pads or tampons.
  • Leak proof.
  • No nasty chemicals.

Both of these products used together (for heavy days) or on their own have helped me shift the dislike I had for my period.
